Using the site

Site Requirements

This site requires the Macromedia Flash plug-in along with Cookies and JavaScript enabled to be able to view it correctly. It is also designed for a resolution of 1024x768.

Registration

You can search our database without being registered.
However, we do advise you to register and always sign-in when you enter www.apeironphotos.com, in order to be able to use your Lightboxes and remain updated about all our news and services. Once you complete the registration form you will be automatically signed-in.

Sign-in

Every time you enter www.apeironphotos.com, remember to sign-in in order to activate and use your Lightboxes. Make sure you keep us updated about your details, through the menu My Profile.

Searching

Basic Search

You can search directly from the home page. Just type the keyword, the image number or the name of the agency and/or collection you wish to view. You can type more than one keyword or use wildcards. Rights Managed, Royalty Free or All images options are available.

Advanced Search

The web site leads you directly to the advanced search menu when showing results from the basic search or when you press the Advanced Search link. Type the keyword, the image number or the name of the agency and/or collection you wish to view. You can type more than one keyword, use wildcards or use the 3 active filters.

Wildcards

Wildcards can be indicated by an asterisk (*) or percent (%) at the end of every keyword and they enable you to get results for all words including the same prefix or images associated with that word. For example, a search for "ski*", will bring back results for "ski", "skier", and "skiing". Searches cannot begin with a wildcard, thus a search for the word "*ski", will not produce any results.

Search within results

If you need to narrow down your search, just tick the Search within results Box and insert more keywords specifying your search.

Filters

- Rights Managed, Royalty Free, All images
When you start your research, choose whether you wish to see Rights-Managed, Royalty-Free or all images, considering the level of exclusivity your project requires, as well as your budget.

- All agencies
You can search our entire collection, or choose a specific agency or collection to view. You can either select the agency you wish to search from the filter option scrolling down, or by just typing the name of the agency in the search field. To view our full alphabetic list of agencies and collections and a brief description of their imagery, just go to Agencies & Collections.

- All colour modes
Our search engine gives you the option of looking at colour, b/w or all colour modes images.

Search Tips

Be as precise as possible: use the singular or the plural form of words. If for example you are looking for images of one car, use the word "car", while if you seek a group of cars, use the keyword "cars".

If you are not sure about the exact keyword you are looking for, use our wildcards.

Insert more than one keyword in the search field. Use a space between two keywords or just put a comma. Remember that the search engine will retrieve results by combining the keywords you choose, the same way it would if you used the word "and" between the keywords.

Specify your search by using "and", "or" and "not". Using "and" will retrieve images including all keywords. For example if your are looking of images of a woman and her baby, just type "woman and baby" or "woman baby" or "woman,baby".

Using "or" in-between your keywords will retrieve results containing either one or the either word. Thus, if you are looking for images of women or of babies, just type "women or baby".

If you use "not" between keywords you immediately narrow down your search, because you exclude a group of images from the broad category you might be looking for. For example if you are looking for images of women, but without babies, just search by "women not babies".

If you are looking for an action or activity, try also the gerund form of the keyword in order to maximize results. For example, if you are looking for people eating something, you can obviously insert "people and eat" or "people eat" or "people,eat", but also "people and eating", etc.

The order you use to insert your keywords does not affect the results you are getting. So, if you are looking for women and babies, writing "women babies" or "babies women" will produce the exact same search results.
